Probably left Lewis to go guard the girls because he couldn't hack it. For the record, I heard that he didn't beg him at all. Pretty much told him point blank to get back or else. Oh, and I'm glad the inmates don't like him. Maybe you should reevaluate that statement, as well as, the one about all the staff because not all of us hate him.
