SCOTTSDALE, AZ - A man who claimed he was an undercover police officer from Gilbert, Chandler and Glendale was checking girls’ ID cards at a trendy nightclub, according to Scottsdale police, but that man was not in law enforcement.

Scottsdale police arrested Kurtis Acedo, 22, on September 26th for disorderly conduct and impersonating a police officer at Smashboxx.

Investigators said Acedo was drunk and confiscated drinks from anyone who he believed was underage, throwing their drinks on the ground.

Acedo is not a police officer, but he was a corrections officer for the Arizona State Prison Complex-Lewis in Buckeye.

Shortly after his arrest, his supervisor fired him from that position.

“He disrupted my business for a good 20 minutes,” said Lukus Olbert of Smashboxx.

Olbert said his club has a good relationship with the state liquor board, and so he knows the policies for undercover officers to follow when they’re checking identifications. Acedo did not follow any of those policies, Olbert told ABC15.

“It’s a slap in the face to every cop, everywhere,” Olbert said.

No one was hurt in the incident and Smashboxx security was able to remove Acedo safely and quickly, according to Olbert.

Acedo is due in Scottsdale City Court on October 14th.
