HB 2010 was signed into law by our Current Governor on 09/03/2009 as part of the State budget. What this means for you as a State prison employee is that all State Prison complexes, have the ability to be privatized. This does not mean they will be privatized.

In fact, it means the start of a very long and complicated process laden with stiff requirements that all private bidders must follow. First, any interested private contractor must submit a detailed study or proposal on how they plan on running the prison operation more cost effectively. Each and every study/proposal will be scrutinized and it must make sense for the tax payers of Arizona.

AZCPOA/AZCOPS as an organization will be involved at every corner from a legal standpoint. We will block their efforts with our legal counsel and fight them in court. As time will have passed we will support and endorse candidates that will help us amend the current law HB2010, so that private prison operators will never want to set foot in Arizona.

Now is not the time to waver. We must not forget about the most important factor of all, this is where you our MEMBERS come in. I need you all of you, including the ones who left AZCPOA to join the group that is supporting prison privatization. I need you to come back and stand with us so that we are united as one single organization. One huge Corrections nightmare for private prisons and government leaders who think we are a bunch of dumb guards and workers. Lets show them once and for all, the gloves come off!
