William Veach was offered a deal to plead to manslaughter
The story so far: Yuma toddler Cassie Castens died in 2001, and relatives believed she was killed by her mother's boyfriend, William Veach, who was a Marine in Yuma. Veach said the girl's brain injuries happened in a fall from her high chair. Veach went on to start a family with Cassie's mother, Nicole. Years later, Navy investigator Julie Haney picked up the case and was convinced Veach was guilty. Veach's troubles continued to haunt him, and he and Nicole eventually split. Haney slowly built her case. She believed medical evidence proved the killing, but what she really wanted was a confession.
