Authorities say an Arizona prison inmate has died and it's being investigated as an apparent homicide.
State Department of Corrections officials say 40-year-old inmate Shannon Palmer was found unresponsive in his cell Friday afternoon at the Buckley Unit of the state prison-Lewis in Buckeye. He was later pronounced dead by the emergency medical responders.
DOC officials say Palmer was housed in a two-man cell with another inmate who was not identified. They say the investigation is being conducted by the department's Criminal Investigations Unit.
Palmer entered the state prison system for the fourth time in September 2009 after a conviction for criminal damage out of Maricopa County. He was serving a three-year sentence.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN A "TWO MAN CELL"??? isn't the obvious...so was inmate palmer with a celly? or was he in a cell alone. its terrible that someone died and your reporting sucks!
The DOC is screwed... These cells are NOT a 2 man cell... They ONLY HAVE 1 bed... It's ONLY a 1 man cell but the DOC put's 2 men in there. Why ?
Wait till the story comes out... Heads are going to roll. This is a direct result of only have 1 control room Officer and having equipment not working as well as cross leving 12 officers on this day.
This could have been avoided.
Pull out the Check Book... & pay the family....
It would have been cheaper to pay the officers and fix broken equipment.
Sorry for the loss, But the DOC has been falling apart. We need more Officers and more $$$$ to fix our broken equipment.
Let's pray for change....
the inmate killed at lewis friday was in for climbing a power pole...his "cell mate" (it was a one man detention cell)was a violent convicted killer...how many levels are there below stupid? Stupid just doesn't describe it. I'm at a loss for words...insane,cruel,cold blooded, idiotic, ignorant, brainless and yes STUPID,STUPID,STUPID!!!!!!!!!!
I have been gone for a while but it seems things have not changed.
